Lift Every Voice

By |February 14, 2023|

Every year I sang with the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble HVAE we did a Black History concert at Chaminade. It was, hands down, my absolute favorite concert of the year. We didn't have a large population of African Americans on the stage or in the audience. But that never stopped us. I remember standing with singers and audience members to sing this anthem. I'd look out at a population so much more diverse than where I currently live. For some it was a song they'd never heard. Others knew every word. Some years I saw tears. Every year I saw smiles and there was an energy when we joined our voices that made me proud to be a part of such an impactful concert and to share such a special moment in time. I did not watch one commercial, any of the game, and none of the halftime show. I [...]

My Wish

By |February 11, 2023|

Yesterday was a long day. We set off with Coconut around 9:00 to drive to just north of Chicago to see my father-in-law. He's ninety-eight and not doing well. He's got congestive heart failure needs full time caregivers, and before long, this wonderful man's heart will cease to beat. We decided that instead of asking a friend to watch Coconut, or paying for daycare, we'd bring him with us. It was a perfect travel day, no snow or ice on the roads and sun. We stopped once so that Gary could stretch his leg and I went into TJMaxx and found a replacement dragon since he destroyed his earlier this week. I also got him some treats to enjoy while we ate lunch. I have lived a messy, messy life. Two of my brothers-in-law, one a nurse who was bathing his dad's feet and helping the companion aide to apply [...]

Love a Writer? Please Leave a Review

By |February 8, 2023|

Lately people have been asking when I will have another book signing. I decided to take off doing events through March because of Gary's two surgeries. The next one is February 16th. Then I ask what is the best way to buy the book and, for now, it really is through Amazon. I hope those who you who love dogs or who have friends who do will consider getting a copy. When you do, or if you already have it, the nicest thing to do it to review it. Reviews help others find the book and it also helps Amazon to decide it's worth promoting at a new level. Here's the direct review link where to post the review. Amazon requires a ranking and I'd love it if you wrote about the book. Why you liked it, how it made you feel, etc. https://bit.ly/3RKB92T I am working in an April [...]

The Best Lesson Of All

I love the fact that I met so many stories while I writing my book I Chose You. One of my favorite stories fits into today's discussion on chaining dogs outside. Look what happens when [...]

By |February 1, 2023|

January was a tough month. Every day it seemed a celebrity died. But the one goodbye that hits hard for my family is my uncle Earl. He would have been 95 in March and we'll [...]
