My Book Bought a Computer!
Yesterday was Cyber Monday. I don't usually buy anything because of Cyber Monday or Black Friday. If I buy at all I try and support small businesses. My house is all about vintage and resale and I can tell you it's been way too long since I bought new clothes. I hate clothes shopping. But this year was different. Yesterday I made up for a lot of Cyber Mondays when I didn't buy anything at all. Except for dog food and treats. Priorities. I've been nursing my computer trying to get through this year of writing and marketing. It's got life left in it, but it was well past time to upgrade. I only wanted an iMac and I was willing to wait if i had to. But I have two books I am writing plus all the work I do to marketing the current book and the computer was [...]
Light, Joy, and Hope
A few of years ago I decided I wanted an outdoor clock for our porch. I searched everywhere I could think of, but they were either hideous, they were not suitable for the arctic Wisconsin temperatures, or they were too expensive. I began searching online with equally awful results. I used to fly quite a bit to see family and friends and for various work reasons and I somehow remembered the Delta Airlines in-flight shopping magazine. When the movie was over or I'd finished my book I flip through it and laugh at some of the ridiculous and always expensive products. I even remembered the name of one of the companies so I typed in the name and got the Hammacher Schlemmer site. I surely could not afford a clock we did not need. We'd spent far more on bringing new life to this home built in 1875 tham I [...]
A Simple Pair of Gloves
I am thankful for all we have. I've never been homeless but I have been close and I went bankrupt after taking care of my husband through his fight with Huntington's disease. This morning I looked at the weather forecast and it looks like the unseasonably warm weather we've been enjoying is coming to an end. That got me thinking about last year and this story. What can you give this season to help someone stay warm? A simple pair of gloves, a scarf you no longer need? How about a kind word or a gift card so that they can eat a meal inside of a warm restaurant. Does your town have a homeless shelter? That's a great place to start to ask how you can help. This is a story I wrote last year. Since then I have made it a point to drop off winter clothing, hygiene [...]
Lily in the Hostas
When we moved here the yard was neglected. We spent our time and money the first year getting windows and ceiling fans and a furnace and a ton of other things we needed to make [...]
Black Friday Deal
Every year at the rescue we'd offer s Black Friday special. All black dogs had their adoption fee reduced. Some years we added a bed or a leash and collar. This year I hope others [...]
All I Want For Christmas
